The latest airline route news, featuring network changes, schedule alterations, codeshares and interline agreements.


June 12

Greek carrier Aegean and Icelandair signed a memorandum of understanding to form a codeshare partnership. “Icelandair passengers will gain access to destinations across Greece, while Aegean passengers will be able to travel to Iceland,” the carriers said. “Additional details regarding the codeshare routes will be provided in due course.”


Emirates Sky Cargo will open Boeing 777 freighter flights between Dubai and Almaty, Kazakhstan from June 16. The route will be operated weekly. The cargo arm of Emirates Airline noted it has taken delivery of four new 777Fs since March. Six more are slated to be delivered before the end of the year, which will bring Emirates’ freighter fleet to 21 aircraft.


Sun Country Airlines said it will resume three suspended routes in 2027: Minneapolis-Montego Bay; Minneapolis-Melbourne, Florida; and Duluth, Minnesota-Fort Meyers, Florida.


Wizz Air launched flights between London Luton Airport and Yerevan, Armenia, operating the route 2X-weekly. The carrier also started flying 2X-weekly between Yerevan and Rhodes Island, Greece.


June 11

 

Qatar Airways will launch service between Doha and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) from Aug. 1. The route, which Qatar Airways previously served but dropped in 2023, will be flown with an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. PHL will become the 14th destination in North America served by the airline.


Delta Air Lines kicked off daily flights between Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The route will be flown with an Airbus A350.


Frontier Airlines will open two new routes from Las Vegas Reid International Airport (LAS). From Aug. 20, the all-Airbus A320 operator will start 11X-weekly flights between LAS and Oakland, California. From Sept. 10, Frontier will commence 4X-weekly service between LAS and Boise, Idaho.


Finnair will start nonstop flights in October from Helsinki Airport (HEL) to both Tampere and Turku in Finland. Both cities were served by Finnair in the past, but in 2023 the airline replaced flights to the two cities from HEL with bus connections. Bus service will continue during the day, but night-time buses from HEL to Tampere and Turku will be replaced with overnight flights.

Saudi LCC flynas will establish a new operating base at Al-Qassim’s Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport. The new base, developed in partnership with airport operator Cluster2, will open in July and initially support flights to five destinations. International services will connect Al-Qassim with Istanbul, Trabzon and Cairo Sphinx, while domestic routes will serve Abha and Dammam. The move expands flynas' network footprint beyond its existing bases in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Madinah and Abha. The airline says it plans to gradually increase the number of destinations served from Al-Qassim as part of its broader growth strategy.


Etihad Airways will double its service between Abu Dhabi and Kabul, Afghanistan, from July 15, adding a second daily flight in response to stronger-than-expected demand. The route launched in March with 4X-weekly roundtrips. Flights are operated using Airbus A320 aircraft configured with eight business-class and 150 economy-class seats.


Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Aerolíneas Argentinas have signed a codeshare agreement. Under the partnership, Aerolíneas Argentinas will place its AR code on SAS-operated flights linking Madrid and Rome with the Scandinavian capitals of Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. SAS, meanwhile, will add its SK code to Aerolíneas Argentinas' long-haul services between Buenos Aires and both Madrid and Rome, providing one-stop access between Northern Europe and Argentina.


Air Canada has placed its first Airbus A321XLR into scheduled service, marking the start of operations for the airline's newest long-range narrowbody aircraft. The aircraft entered service on June 8 operating Flight AC413 between Montreal and Toronto. It will operate several domestic flights prior to its first transatlantic flight between Montréal and Toulouse on June 15.


Discover Airlines has launched nonstop flights between Frankfurt and Brindisi, Italy. The route will operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, through the end of October using Airbus A320 aircraft. The addition gives the carrier a second destination in Italy's Puglia region, alongside Bari.

WestJet and Icelandair have expanded their partnership through a reciprocal codeshare agreement. The agreement, signed at the IATA Annual General Meeting, will allow WestJet passengers to book onward travel via Reykjavik Keflavík International Airport (KEF) to more than 10 destinations across Europe on Icelandair’s network, subject to regulatory approval. Icelandair passengers will also be able to access more destinations in Canada. The partnership coincides with WestJet’s continued expansion to Iceland. Later this month, the carrier will launch nonstop flights to KEF from Edmonton and Winnipeg, while seasonal service from Calgary has returned for summer 2026. For Icelandair, the agreement marks the airline’s first codeshare partnership with a Canadian carrier.


Riyadh Air has opened ticket sales for four additional destinations as it prepares to launch operations, unveiling services to Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah and Madrid alongside the introduction of its first Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The announcement follows the delivery of the carrier’s first two 787-9s on June 5, with a third aircraft arriving in Saudi Arabia on June 7. Riyadh Air plans to launch flights to Jeddah on June 14, followed by Dubai on June 18, Cairo on June 25 and Madrid on July 17. As previously reported, flights to London Heathrow will start on June 10, while Manchester service launches on July 23.


Air Corsica has added new routes to Vienna from Ajaccio and Bastia, expanding access between Austria and the Mediterranean island. The Ajaccio service began on June 7 and operates weekly on Sundays through Oct. 4. Flights to Bastia will follow from June 14, operating 2X-weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays until Sept. 30. Both routes are served using Airbus A320 aircraft. The additions mark Air Corsica’s expansion beyond its traditional public service obligation network.


Southwest Airlines and Singapore Airlines have launched an interline partnership, enabling passengers to book single-ticket itineraries between Singapore Airlines’ network and nearly 120 destinations served by Southwest across the U.S. Announced at the IATA Annual General Meeting, the agreement allows passengers to connect between the carriers at three U.S. gateways served by Singapore Airlines: Los Angeles International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and San Francisco International Airport. Singapore Airlines becomes Southwest’s eighth international airline partner.


Saudi LCC flynas will launch nonstop flights between Riyadh and Alexandria on July 6, further expanding its network in Egypt. The route will operate three times per week between Riyadh and Alexandria International Airport, formerly known as Borg El Arab International Airport.


Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Garuda Indonesia have signed a codeshare agreement. The partnership will provide customers with expanded travel options between Jakarta, Denpasar and the Scandinavian capitals of Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. It enables connections via Amsterdam and Tokyo Haneda, with Bangkok set to be added as a transfer point from the winter 2026-27 season. Both airlines, members of the SkyTeam alliance, say the partnership will simplify travel between Northern Europe and Southeast Asia.


Star Alliance members Air India and Thai Airways International have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a deeper commercial partnership, including a planned codeshare agreement aimed at strengthening connectivity between India, Thailand and beyond. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the IATA Annual General Meeting and builds on the airlines’ existing interline relationship. Subject to regulatory approval, the carriers intend to launch a codeshare partnership later this year. Under the proposed arrangement, Air India and Thai Airways would place their respective codes on flights between India and Thailand, as well as selected onward services across Asia, Europe and North America.

Riyadh Air has opened sales for flights between Riyadh and Manchester, marking the carrier's second UK destination. The route will commence on July 23 with 3X-weekly flights operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft. “This route has been carefully selected to serve a key market for connecting the north of England to the Middle East, aligning with our ambition to become a global airline,” Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas says. The announcement comes as Riyadh Air brings forward the launch of its London Heathrow service. Flights to the UK capital will now begin on June 10, three weeks earlier than originally scheduled. On June 5, Boeing said it had delivered the first two 787-9 aircraft to Riyadh Air, enabling the Saudi startup carrier to begin commercial passenger service.


Air Canada and Abra Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a long-term strategic partnership. The proposed agreement would build on Air Canada's existing relationships with Avianca and GOL, both part of Abra Group, and create a framework for broader commercial integration. The carriers plan to pursue a joint business agreement on selected Canada-Latin America routes, subject to regulatory approvals. Under the proposal, the airlines would expand codeshare cooperation and coordinate sales and distribution activities.


Philippine Airlines has deployed its second Airbus A350-1000 between Manila and Toronto Pearson. The A350-1000 will operate 3X-weekly roundtrips between the cities, complementing the airline's first A350-1000, which is currently deployed on services to New York. Toronto becomes the second destination in Philippine Airlines' network to receive the aircraft type.


Etihad Airways and Romania’s TAROM have signed a codeshare agreement ahead of Etihad's planned launch of flights between Abu Dhabi and Bucharest. The partnership, announced at the IATA Annual General Meeting, will allow Etihad customers to book onward travel beyond Bucharest to six destinations across Romania—Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Oradea, Suceava and Timisoara—as well as to Belgrade, Budapest, Chisinau and Sofia on TAROM-operated services. Etihad plans to open an Abu Dhabi-Bucharest route on Dec. 17.


Royal Air Maroc has inaugurated nonstop service between Casablanca and Los Angeles, extending its North American network to the U.S. West Coast for the first time. The route launched on June 7 and operates three times per week, with flights departing Casablanca on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Royal Air Maroc CEO Hamid Addou described the route as a milestone for both the airline and African connectivity, saying that it strengthens links between Morocco and the U.S. West Coast while supporting growing demand from diaspora, tourism and business travelers.
