UK leisure carrier Jet2.com says it has had a strong positive reaction from the market for its first business class-configured Boeing 737-800.

The aircraft, sourced from within Jet2.com’s existing fleet, has been converted from its previous 189-seat all-economy configuration to a 2-2, 76-seat business-class layout with 43 in.-pitch, for use on charter services.

The airline, headquartered at Leeds Bradford Airport in Yorkshire, in the north of England, has based the aircraft at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport.

The carrier has operated its first service with the aircraft, and a spokesperson said the company had received “a brilliant response to the new aircraft, with strong interest from charter customers.”

The airline says the new product has been introduced in response to demand from customers, including sports, music, entertainment and specialist groups seeking privacy, comfort, flexibility and an elevated travel experience. It added that its charter team has reported “exceptional” early feedback from customers.

“This is the first time that we have featured a dedicated business class specification on our aircraft, so this is an incredibly exciting development for charter customers,” said Trevor Caplis, Jet2.com’s head of charter and airline sales.

Jet2.com said it would monitor demand and customer feedback before deciding whether to convert further aircraft to a similar configuration. The airline is moving from a 737 fleet to one based on the Airbus A321neo, with 155 scheduled for delivery over the next decade.
