Spain is Europe’s largest aviation market during the three months to the end of June, accounting for 12.5% of all seats from and within the region during the period.

There are some 47.6 million departure seats from and within Spain during the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, marking a 10% increase on pre-pandemic levels. Domestic capacity totals about 32% of the 47.6 million available departure seats.

Ryanair is the largest carrier with 21.9% share of the market, followed by Vueling on 15.5% and the LCC’s parent company Iberia on 14.1%. Approximately 20.2% of all capacity from and within Spain originates at Madrid Adolfo Suarez-Barajas Airport (MAD), with Barcelona El Prat Airport the country’s second-largest gateway, accounting for 17.7% of capacity.

Seville Airport, which will be the host destination for Routes Europe 2025, is the 10th-largest airport in the country, offering some 1.4 million departure seats during Q2 2024.
