Switzerland’s Zurich Airport (ZRH) has a well-developed catchment area of more than 11 million, including travellers from Germany, Austria, and France.

Not only is the airport located within a highly attractive tourism market but is also the preferred transport hub for affluent locals to utilize for traveling abroad and connecting to their final destinations. Recognized for its customer service, Zurich Airport won the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award in the 25 to 40 million passengers in Europe category for the seventh time in 2022.

Expecting to hit full pre-pandemic recovery in 2025, passenger numbers increased by 28% in 2023, with capacity back to 92% compared to 2019. The number of aircraft movements also increased by 14%, compared to 2022, totalling 247,456.

ZRH boasts a diverse portfolio of 200 destinations in 72 countries served by 60 airlines. Having celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023, the airport attained consistent success in the last year. Most notable recent success includes the announcement of Air India’s return to Zurich, connecting to New Delhi 4X-weekly from June 2024.

On Dec. 16, 2023, easyJet launched a new route from London Stansted (STN), increasing connectivity to five London airports. Edelweiss, Zurich Airport’s home carrier, also launched seasonal 2X-weekly flights to Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in November, with an onward service to Cartagena. This followed the start of operations to Jordan for the first time in February 2023, with flights to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) and on to King Hussein International Airport (AQJ).

During February 2024 Edelweiss launched inaugural flights to two destinations in Finland, Ivalo Airport (IVL) and Kuusamo Airport (KAO).

Additionally, ZRH welcomed new carrier Beond last year, offering twice a week flights to Malé’s Velana International Airport (MLE) in the Maldives, stopping in Dubai. Offering business class seats only, there are plans to expand the fleet with larger aircraft to fly directly from Zurich to Malé.

As a member of Routes 360, the only digital platform dedicated to route development, ZRH has uploaded multiple route opportunities to its profile, seeking to expand its international offering to meet strong demands and grow its 28 million passengers.
