    • Landing Radar Field Test

A Wolfe Air AStar AS350 BA helicopter flies over Rogers Dry Lake, Calif., during field testing of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) landing radar. A mock-up of MSL's rover deploys with a winch to test potential interference with the radar beams. MSL is scheduled to land on Mars in 2012 using an innovative skycrane technique which employs the new pulsed Doppler landing radar. Photographer: Steven Lee, Stevenson Ranch, Calif.
