Aviation Week sent surveys to 127 chief executive officers and directors of major U.S.-based government laboratories. More than 60% of the organizations responded to the survey. Non-U.S. data was provided by the Society of British Aerospace Companies, the AeroSpace and Defense Industries Assn. of Europe and the Aerospace Industries Assn. of Canada.
The company/agency surveys were filed with a third-party firm, The Training Team of Phoenix, to collate survey responses and aggregate data for Aviation Week.
Identification of leading companies/agencies in the three specific categories—technological challenge, professional development and valuing the individual—was based on the aggregate data of the organization on questions specific to these categories. The employee survey was sent to e-mail addresses of Aviation Week online and print readers whose titles included engineering, business development, science, technology development and program management. The online survey, conducted by Web Surveyor, now known as Vovici, was distributed to 5,200 individuals with a 9% return rate.
