FAA recently issued installation approval for AlliedSignal's new RTA-44D air transport specification VHF communications radio on MD80 and MD90 aircraft. The new radio features both 25 Kz channel spacing and the new EUROCAE spec 8.33 KHz channel spacing that virtually triples the number of available frequencies. It also has growth potential for a future 31.5 k-baud datalink.
