Uzbekistan Airways, the flag carrier of the Republic of Uzbekistan, will start fitting a dozen of its Ilyushin jetliners with Honeywell TCAS 2000 and Mode S transponders later this year. The airline is installing the equipment in response to European and Indian mandates for Airborne Collision Avoidance Systems in airliners. The work on all twelve aircraft is slated to be completed by early 1999, with options for 28 more installations if Uzbekistan Airways places the orders by December 31, 2000.
