Palm Beach County Buys Two Sikorsky Helicopters

The Health Care District Board of Palm Beach County, FL has purchased two Sikorsky S-76C+ helicopters for trauma services.

The $13.4 million contract, signed on October 15, calls for delivery of the first specially equipped EMS rotorcraft in August 1999. The second is to be delivered in October 1999. The new S-76C+ aircraft will be equipped with a variety of special equipment, including a wire-strike protection system.

The contract has provisions for maintenance and localized training for pilots, mechanics and medical personnel. The deal also includes a special user agreement under which the helicopters will serve as an economic development tool for Palm Beach County by being available as demonstrators for Sikorsky on a non-interference basis. The manufacturer has a major facility in West Palm Beach.
