More Aircraft than Ever at UND

The University of North Dakota's UND Aerospace fleet will top the 100-aircraft mark by the end of the year, the school said here.

More formally known as the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, UND Aerospace (Booth 1915) currently operates 87 aircraft at its principal Grand Forks and five extension training sites.

An additional 16 aircraft are slated for delivery this year and 14 more in 1999. They include Diamond DA20-C1 Katanas, Piper Warriors, Arrows and Seminoles, and Raytheon BE58 Barons.

"The strength of the airline industry makes collegiate aviation an attractive option for many young people," said UND Aerospace interim dean Richard Nelson. "We are growing our fleet" in response, he said. Nelson is former president and CEO of Milwaukee's Skyway Airlines.

UND Aerospace has teamed with Spokane Falls Community College and with Honolulu Community College to provide collegiate aviation training in Washington State and Hawaii.
