Raisbeck Considers Baggage Lockers for Gulfstreams Raisbeck Engineering (Booth 6758) is in preliminary design of an aft-mounted exterior baggage locker for all Gulfstream jet models. The system would be an expanded version of the Raisbeck aft-mounted fuselage lockers the company certificated on Learjets. The company is requesting feedback from Gulfstream operators to ascertain the market for such a system. As presently envisioned, the locker would be 25 feet long with 65 cubic feet of loading capacity and a maximum weight allowance of 1,500 pounds. Installed empty weight of the all-composite locker would be 275 to 375 pounds. The locker will have "light" pressurization (four psi) and heat through engine bleed-air. Access will be via an aft pivot door. According to James Raisbeck, CEO of Raisbeck Engineering, the locker will not only provide additional space for baggage, but it will reduce aerodynamic drag, possibly by as much as six percent. The system will add to the aircraft's range, Raisbeck said. If the project proceeds, Raisbeck anticipates receiving certification within a year. No price has been set for the Gulfstream lockers. The installed price of the 11-foot Learjet locker is $83,000. By Gordon A. Gilbert | ||||||
