NBAA ’98 Meggitt Aerospace Components, based in San Fernando, California, has been awarded contracts for Ozone Converters for the Cessna Excel 560 aircraft and Learjet 45 aircraft programmes. The Ozone Converters for both aircraft are designed to meet rigorous criteria. They are engineered to give maximum efficiency in ozone disassociation (conversion efficiency greater than 96%) with minimum pressure drop, a low nominal weight of 1.7 pounds and life cycle greater than 30,000 hours. The inner cores are impact resistant and are designed to allow for simple, factory installed replacements. Low cost is a key feature. The Excel 560 is Cessna’s newest business aircraft and was certified in April 1998. The aircraft is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW545A engines with a range of 2,027 nautical miles (with four passengers, two crew, and 45-minute reserves). The Excel climbs directly to 41,000 feet in just 18 minutes and cruises at speeds of up to 495 miles per hour. Its stand-up cabin is the same diameter as the Citation X, providing up to ten passengers with an exceptional amount of space in a light jet aircraft. The Lear 45 twin-engine aircraft can fly at speeds of more than 500 miles per hour and a distance of 2,000 nautical miles with four passengers and two crew. Learjet 45 offers avionics and radio systems for precision flight management uncommon to light jets. Model 45 aircraft entered the fleet earlier in 1998 and Learjet will deliver approximately 60 aircraft per year for the next several years.
