Wilson Air Boasts World's Largest Aviation Canopy

Two-year old Memphis International Airport-based Wilson Air Center, easily recognized by this massive 150-foot by 175-foot canopy to cover departing and arriving aircraft and their occupants, is "at capacity," general manager Dave Ivey told B/CA. But not for long. The FBO, owned by the family that founded the Holiday Inn hotel chain, began construction in September of a three-acre ramp for transient parking and tenant tie-down, and a 22,000 square-foot hangar with attached offices.

The interior dimensions of the new hangar will measure 190 feet by 116 feet by 28 feet. Ramp construction is scheduled for completion in December, with the hangar expected to be finished and in operation by March 1999.
