FAA Approves First-Ever Use of Commercial Night Vision

The first-ever FAA approval of night vision goggles for commercial use has been issued to Utah-headquartered Rocky Mountain Helicopters, RMH says. The STC was earned via a cooperative effort involving RMH, ITT Industries, Redwing Aviation and Hoffman Engineering. The sponsoring hospital for the project was the Mission St. Joseph Health System of Asheville, NC, an RMH customer. "Use of night vision technology will reduce pilot workload, improve situational awareness, and enhance safety during night VFR air medical operations," said RMH operations director Karl Poulsen.
