Helicopter Pilots Praise the Lord Corp.

for Long-Time Good Vibrations in FlightLord Corporation of Cary, NC, which supplies a range of motion, vibration and noise control devices, has been serving the helicopter industry since the mid-1940s when it introduced vibration control products for new helicopters just being developed.

It all began in 1927 when Hugh Lord developed elastomeric mounts to isolate vibration in trolley cars and continues to recent innovations including Fluidlastic dampers and isolators and its NVX Active System to dampen noise in jet airliner cabins.

Among its first applications were transmission and engine isolators for the Bell Model 47 helicopter and elastomeric torsional couplings and transmission engine isolators for the Hiller UH12.

In the 1960s, Lord introduced elastomeric bearings and dampers to replace mechanical bearings and hydraulic dampers and the change increased service life to as much as ten-fold, greatly lowering operating costs and improving aircraft reliability. Lord "firsts" also include spherical elastomeric thrust bearings for the Boeing CH-47, elastomeric high-speed main drive couplings for the Lockheed AH-56, elastomeric dampers for Sud Aviation's SA-341, production elastomeric bearings for the Bell AH-1 and production elastomeric rod ends for the Sikorsky H-60.
