AlliedSignal APUs--Lan, Tam and TACA, Too

AlliedSignal is enjoying sales of its 131-9 auxiliary power unit pretty much everywhere, reporting recent new business in China and Europe, and in Latin America. China Eastern and Alitalia recently disclosed that the two air carriers will buy a total of 34 131-9 APUs for their narrowbody jetliners. The deal for initial acquisition, spares and support is worth more than $35 million over the life of the program. The 131-9 also figures in orders placed by three South American carriers-Lan Chile, TAM of Brazil and the TACA Group of El Salvador. The three have ordered $100 million worth of AlliedSignal equipment for 88 of their Airbus 320 single-aisle jetliners. AlliedSignal will supply its 131-9(A) APUs for forward fit and retrofit installations, as well as Enhanced GPWS, flight data and cockpit voice recorders.
