Lufthansa to Equip 175 to 400 Jetliners with AlliedSignal GPWS

AlliedSignal Aerospace will supply 175 Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems to Lufthansa as part of a 10-year contract. The order could grow to 400 aircraft, as Lufthansa expands its fleet and if the carrier fits all the aircraft of its subsidiary, feeder airlines with the system. E-GPWS has a terrain database that enables the unit to provide graphic and audible warnings of controlled flight into terrain, well before a conventional GPWS reacts to radio and pressure altitude rate. The U.S. FAA has certified the AlliedSignal E-GPWS for installation on all seven types of airliners operated by American Airlines, the manufacturer reports.
