RAAF C-130H Pilots Will Be Better Protected From 'Friendly Fire'

The Royal Australian Air Force is equipping its C-130H fleet with AlliedSignal APX-100 Mode S IFF transponders. Now fully integrated into the transport's avionics suite, the APX-100 is more reliable, smaller in size and lower in weight than the aging APX-72 IFF units, AlliedSignal says, while being capable of both Mode 4 IFF and civil Mode S data link communications. Such features are said to greatly reduce the chance of an aircraft's becoming a victim of friendly fire.
