Fairchild Picks the Primus

Honeywell disclosed that its Primus Epic has been selected by Fairchild Aerospace as the standard integrated avionics equipment on the new 728JET family of regional jets. The 728JET family is comprised of three regional jets including the 528JET with a maximum of 63 seats, the 728JET with a maximum of 78 seats and 928JET with 98 seats.

The standard cockpit configuration for the 728JET family will have five DU-1080 flat panel displays with capabilities not presently found in regional jets. The Primus Epic will feature an autopilot with "smart servos" and Primus 660 weather radar, AA-300 radio altimeter, Primus II integrated radio system, and built-in maintenance recording accessible through a portable maintenance access terminal.

The 728JETs will also have TCAS 2000 and two control cursor devices. The Primus package will come with slots to accommodate the future growth operators may require.

"We are very excited about this since it is our first foray into the regional market and it further validates the Epics architecture," said Honeywell systems VP John Uczekaj.

The delivery of pre-production models will begin in mid-1999. Production models would be delivered a few months prior to aircraft certification. Honeywell expects to deliver between 30 to 40 units per year. Fairchild Aerospace had previously said that Lufthansa and Crossair had placed a combined order for 60 aircraft with 60 options.
