Fairchild, Embraer Win $8Billion Orders

ILA 2000: Regional jet manufacturers Fairchild Aerospace and Embraer of Brazil reaped a bonanza of orders for 300 aircraft worth nearly $8 billion at ILA 2000.

Leasing company GE Capital Aviation Services ended a one-year order famine for 70- to 90- passenger regional jets with its morning and afternoon announcement for 50 firm and 100 optional orders from each manufacturer.

For Fairchild, the order was the largest in its history, worth $4.2 billion, all for 728JET regional jets. At the same time Austria's Air Alps, a KLM partner airline, announced a $150 million order for three 30-passenger 328JETs and five of the larger 429JETs plus three options.

The Embraer order was for 50 ERJ 170s and options on 100 ERJ 170s and 190s worth $3.6 billion.
