Meggitt Magic

Meggitt Avionics has delivered the first shipset of its new Magic (Meggitt Avionics New Generation Integrated Cockpit) electronic flight instrument systems to Piper for installation in the Malibu Meridian.

Meggitt has developed Magic as a low-cost, fully integrated EFIS for new and retrofit applications. The complete system includes a primary flight display, a navigation display and a solid-state air-data attitude heading reference systems (ADAHRS). Both U.S. and British divisions of the UK-owned company have taken part in development of Magic.

The Malibu Meridian is the launch application for the system, which is due to be certified early next year. The Magic engine displays are standard on the Meridian, and the EFIS is a $97,000 option. Piper is expecting almost all Meridian customers to opt for EFIS.

Magic has also been selected for the Century Aerospace CA-100, the Visionaire Vantage and the American Utilicraft FF-1880-200 freight feeder aircraft.
