BFGoodrich Debuts TAWS Box

By the end of next year, and for less than $10,000, business aircraft operators will be able to buy a TSO C151 Level B terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS) from BFGoodrich Avionics Systems. The company's landmark TAWS8000 provides aural warnings and can be linked to a radar indicator by means of the firm's RGC250 radar graphics computer or to any TAWS-compatible, Arinc 453 (weather radar interface) EFIS. The terrain map shows terrain in green, yellow or red, depending upon the relative elevation to the aircraft's altitude. Published obstructions are depicted in light blue. The box also will display runways that are at least 2,000 feet long.

BFG's TAWS joins AlliedSignal's general aviation EGPWS and Universal Avionics' integrated TAWS in the emerging TAWS market, providing business aircraft operators with more options in complying with the TAWS mandate.
