Securaplane Gets STC, PMA for Wireless Smoke
Detection Systems

The Wireless Smoke Detection System developed by Securaplane Technologies of Tucson (booth 8578), has received both FAA STC and Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for installation on various aircraft. It now has an STC and a PMA for DC-9-41 aircraft, a PMA for the Boeing 727-100, and an STC for the DC-9-30. STCs and PMAs were obtained last year for the Boeing 737-300 series. Also approved earlier were installations on the DC-8 series. Wireless smoke detection customers include Southwest Airlines, UPS, Airborne Express, Emery Worldwide and Sun Country Airlines. The wireless system, which reduces installation times over hard-wired systems and provides monitoring of unmanned aircraft, can be installed during an overnight involving some 70 man-hours, significantly less than the downtime required for hardwired systems. Other advantages include low cost and fast replacement of sensor heads or batteries.
