Meggitt Wins Ozone Converter
Pacts for AlliedSignal, Cessna
Meggitt Aerospace Components won development contracts to provide
ozone converters for Cessna Citation X and Raytheon Hawker Horizon
bizjets. In addition, Meggitt subsidiary Vibro-Meter will provide
vibration sensors and processing modules for the U.S. Army's UH-60A
and UH-60B Blackhawk helicopter.
Meggitt's ozone converter incorporates a lightweight, stainless
steel converter core to minimize corrosion. The ozone converter
is positioned upstream from the pre-cooler pack of an aircraft's
environmental control system and uses catalysis to convert ozone
into breathable oxygen.
The unit's success on the Cessna Citation Excel helped Meggitt
win the Citation X contract, according to the company.
The Hawker contract actually was awarded by AlliedSignal, which
supplies the environmental control system for the super-midsize
jet.
Vibro-Meter's sensors and modules will be part of BFGoodrich Aircraft
Integrated Systems' IMD HUMS system, which will monitor aircraft
component systems in-flight. Data from the system will be transferred
to ground-based computer systems for automated maintenance action
identification.
Similar systems are in development for U.S. Navy SH-60 Sea Hawk
and CH-53E helicopters.
