Lucas Aerospace Shows Off New Products

TRW Aeronautical Systems' Lucas Aerospace unit is showing off a number of new electrical power products at NBAA, including advanced components that can potentially save power and weight on a corporate aircraft.

One new item here is the company's solid state power controller (SSPC) demonstrator, which controls power distribution within an electrical system. Compared with a conventional power distribution system, the SSPC offers a number of benefits, including remote trip and reset functions (because solid-state devices replace circuit breakers), reduced weight, and minimized wiring.
TRW has tested a complete unit incorporating 80 SSPC modules, creating a reliable and fault-tolerant power distribution system.

TRW is also presenting its new FADEC 2001 which is designed as a low-cost full authority digital engine control for business and regional aircraft engines, and the variable-frequency main generator for the Bombardier Global Express, which is claimed to be the first of its type to be certificated on a turbofan engine.
