A Higher Level of Safety for Flight Crews

“Safety counts,” says Wil Nijsten, CEO of Acaleph Flight Training, standing in the only mobile flight safety training unit in Europe. The “Mobile Flight Safety Truck,” offering pilots and flight crews an ultra-realistic experience in flight safety training, is making its first appearance here at the Paris Air Show.

“We developed it out of observed deficiencies in airline flight training,” said Nijsten, so Acaleph sought a higher level of safety training for flight crews and pilots. The Mobile Flight Safety Truck is equipped with a full-scale, fully functional cabin mock-up with multiple fire sources (seat, overhead bin, galley and bathroom) and a smoke generator with the ability to fill the cabin with smoke in the better part of a minute. Trainees in the simulator are observed by a teacher through closed-circuit camera and infrared when the cabin lights are “failed.”

From this platform, Acaleph offers a complete training program, including slide training, first aid and security procedures, and can complete a full training course for 150 people in an average of three to four days. Many smaller European airlines, private companies wanting to train their frequent flyers, and the Belgian Air Force have already enlisted its services to train their employees and crew members in the basics of flight and cabin safety.  —Martin Sweetman
