Korean Air Selects Engine Alliance as A380 Powerplant

As expected, Korean Air announced its selection of the Engine Alliance GP7200 turbofan as the power source for its planned fleet of Airbus A380s. Presidents K.S. Lee of Korean Air and Bruce Hughes of Engine Alliance signed the contract here at the show, calling for 23 engines to be supplied at a cost of $300 million. The airline ordered five of the four-engined, supersize A380s in October 2003 and has options on a further three. Rated at 70,000 pounds thrust, the GP7200 meets current Stage 3 and proposed Stage 4 noise level standards.
