Air Calédonie Announces Three Firm Orders for ATR
Air Calédonie announced orders for three ATR aircraft at Le Bourget two ATR 72-500s and one ATR 42-500. The airline will begin accepting delivery of the new aircraft beginning in 2006.
“With rich nickel mines and two large companies settling in New Caledonia, good transport is going to be important,” president and CEO of Air Calédonie Nidoish Naisseline said.
The airline is renewing its current fleet of ATR 42-320s, of which it operates three. Naisseline mentioned low operating costs and cockpit commonality as reasons why his airline was drawn to the two ATR aircraft in the decision process.
ATR CEO Filippo Bagnato suggested Air Calédonie was “increasing the ‘fire power’ of the fleet because the A 74 has more seats [than the 42-320].”
The aircraft will all be equipped with the “Elegance” cabin and a new multipurpose computer.
The order is valued at $50 million.
