Dassault Taps Thales for UCAV Data Link
Thales will supply the data link for the Neuron unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) technology demonstrator. France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland are all involved in the program. The data link will provide a high rate connection capability that meets NATO standards. This will handle video, imagery and radar data as well as command and control information. A low-rate secure data link will also be provided in a different frequency band to provide a high data integrity connection. Pierre-Yves Chaltiel, vice president of Thales Land & Joint Systems Division, says the bi-directional data link will be similar to one Thales provides for the Rafale and Mirage 2000 and will comply with Neuron’s stealth requirements.
