Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) of Passenger Seats

P.L. Porter, which is part of Crane Aerospace & Electronics, is demonstrating a preliminary version of its radio frequency identification (RFID) tagging system for passenger seats in an interactive exhibit here at the show. The RFID tagging will enable parts data to be stored on each seat and read using a handheld reader. This will allow seat manufacturers, airlines and other aircraft operators to identify parts used on a particular seat and conduct configuration control. RFID devices are microchips that can store data and communicate it by wireless means via antenna.
