Smiths Taps Crane for 787 Brake Controls

Smiths Aerospace, the supplier of the landing gear system for the Boeing 787, has selected Crane Aerospace & Electronics to provide the brake control and monitoring system for the new aircraft. This system will use new technology called “remote integrated braking services.” This technology integrates brake control, temperature, wheel speed and tire pressure indications in an electronic control unit on each axle. The system will cut cost and weight while providing excellent fault tolerance, Crane says. Greg Ward, president of Crane, adds that the 787 system is the start of developing next-generation braking controls at Crane.
