Coast Guard Retaining Multi-Role HH-60

The U.S. Coast Guard’s revised plan for its Deepwater program calls for the retention of 42 HH-60Js currently used in search and rescue and other roles. With the newly expanded homeland security role, the Coast Guard has dropped the idea of purchasing a smaller helicopter in favor of keeping its HH-60Js. It now plans to fit a new cockpit with an improved search/weather radar and electro-optics infrared units while upgrading the engines and airframe. The aircraft will then be designated the MH-60T. It will also have an “airborne use of force package” including weapons.
