Aerion Unveils SSJ Cabin Configurations Today
The anticipated Aerion Supersonic Business Jet travels closer to completion today Aerion is unveiling five possible cabin floor plans here at the show. Seating configurations for eight to 12 passengers will focus on comfort and productivity for the “supersonic traveler.” Stand-up headroom, a 30-foot cabin length and tuck-away conference tables are some of the features to expect in the SSJ, which is designed to travel at twice the speed of today’s large jets. In earlier news, Pratt & Whitney’s JT8D engine will power the jet. Elsewhere in the Aerion SSJ’s development, low-speed wind tunnel tests conducted earlier this year resulted in aerodynamic refinements and further confirmation of the SSJ’s projected performance in the realms of stall speeds and runway requirements. Aerion Corp. of Reno, Nevada, formed in 2002 to reintroduce commercial supersonic flight, says its SSJ could be ready to enter service in 2011.
