Erieye Mexican Coke Bust

For those who have it, airborne air surveillance is worth its weight in gold. For the Mexican Air Force its Erieye airborne radar system is worth at least a tonne of cocaine — because that’s how much smuggled coke an Erieye helped to trap in an operation last month. The Erieye was used to track a drug-running Turbo Commander 690 that was recovered with 1,067 1-kg bags of cocaine on board, plus more that had spilled out when the Commander crashed near Chetumal. Mexico operates one EMB-145 AEW&C aircraft (fitted with Ericsson’s Erieye), delivered in 2004.
