Aermacchi M311s for the Royal Air Force?

All three bidders for the British Royal Air Force “training by the hour” competition have asked Aermacchi for details of its new M311 jet trainer, on show here at Le Bourget for the first time. The aircraft’s price; low-cost, almost off-the-shelf avionics (by CMC); and low operating and lifetime costs make it competitive with turboprop trainers but with a much sexier jet engine rather than a propeller, says Aermacchi CEO Carmelo Cosentino. The aircraft is also under evaluation by Singapore and Turkey.
