Northrop Grumman Picks Smiths for UAV Primary Flight Control Actuation

Northrop Grumman Unmanned Systems has selected Smiths Aerospace to supply electromechanical actuators (EMAs) for the company’s unmanned air vehicle (UAV) programs, Smiths reports. The EMAs will be used for projects including the Fire Scout Vertical Takeoff UAV, Global Hawk High Altitude Long Endurance UAV and the BQM-74F Target Drone. The potential EMA value on these platforms is worth $20 million, with a long-term multi-platform value of nearly $50 million. The first system delivery is scheduled for fourth quarter of this year from Smiths’ New Jersey facility.
