Israel Unveil Sensors, Weapons and Integrated C4 Systems

An impressive team of aerospace industries from Israel is participating at the 2005 Paris Air Show, demonstrating an array of net-centric aerospace and defense technologies including avionics, C4ISR, and manned and unmanned systems. Many systems are shown for the first time, including the debut of the RAFAEL/IAI SPYDER air defense system, and 3D EL/M-2106NG radar.

Another newcomer is a completely new version of the Hermes 1500 UAV from Elbit Systems. The aircraft is shown with multi-sensor suite, including SAR, EO/IR and SIGINT. Elbit's UAV display includes the latest ground control systems and new electro-optical payloads, including the recently unveiled EMOS. The company is also displaying the latest SKYLARK, which is now in operational service with the Israel Defense Forces. This miniature UAV is equipped with an advanced integrated operating console designed specifically for combat troops.

The first IAI/MALAT/EADS Eagle-1 delivered to France is shown at the EADS static display with French Air Force markings. IAI also shows the new smaller-sized version of the I-View. Three other new, Israeli miniature UAVs on display here include TopiVision’s Casper 250, and Aeronautics Orbiter and IAI/MALAT BirdEye-400, both flying wing designs. New UAV related components and subsystems on display include miniature avionics from RADA. IAI/LAHAV unveils the Twister -- a new multi-mission command and control system developed by an industry team including IAI/MLM and NESS TSG.

A range of new-special mission aircraft configurations based on the Gulfstream 550 platform are also on display in models by IAI/ELTA. These include SIGINT, AEW and Multi-Mission Airborne Reconnaissance & Surveillance (MARS2). The company displays an image processing center and a broadened range of SAR radars, including the new EL/M-20600 Radar Targeting Pod and EL/M-2070 space-based radar used on the TECSAR. IAI’s Space Division is unveiling the OPSAT lightweight observation satellite that will use the same bus.

On the weapons side, a few new systems are on show such as the RAFAEL SPICE 1000 guidance kit designed for the Mk83 bomb. IAI/MLM and IMI are showing the EXTRA rocket designed for deep attack applications.

IAI/LAHAV is launching the military version of the Javelin, developed in cooperation with the U.S. company ATG, while BVR plans to announce cooperation with Finmeccanica to integrate virtual training into the Aermacchi M346 trainer. RADA displays its recent successful upgrading of Israel Air Force TA-4E and A-4N. -- Tamir Eshel
