TEAC Mission Data Recorders in the Navy

Boeing has awarded a $4 million contract to TEAC Aerospace Technologies for digital, solid-state mission data recorders for 210 U.S. Navy F/A-18 E/F/G aircraft. The MDR-80G/F/A-18 model recorder will replace legacy airborne video tape recorders. The new system employs mission data debriefing software. In addition to recording existing audio and video sources, the unit will record forward-looking infrared imagery. It will also allow pilots to replay the imagery in flight to “frame grab” critical mission images for transmission to other F/A-18E/F aircraft as well as other aircraft and ground units. The system provides frame-by-frame advance, zoom and brightness features and allows several video channels to be reviewed from multiple aircraft. Images or segments can also be exported to a CD/DVD or attached to e-mail.
