CFM: 594 Orders Through May

With the 15,000th CFM56 engine delivered as of April 8 and orders for 683 last year, CFM International shows no signs of abating its 23-year sales run: As of May, the company had received orders for 594 more engines for commercial, military and spares purposes, a value of approximately $3.6 billion. CFM is a 50/50 joint venture between Snecma and General Electric.

This year’s customers include Hapag-Floyd Flug, which placed a $120 million order for CFM56-7B engines to power 10 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Jazeera Airways, a new Kuwaiti low-fare carrier and the first privately owned airline in the Middle East, selected the CFM56-5B to power four firm and four option Airbus A320s, a deal valued at $45 million. Japan Airlines placed a $360 million order for CFM56-7B engines for 30 firm and 10 optional Boeing 737s; SpiceJet, a new low-fare carrier in India, placed a $120 million order for engines for 10 firm and 10 option 737-800s. Contracts for this year also include Ryanair, with a $900 million order for CFM-56-7B engines for 70 firm and 70 option 737-800s; Hainan Airlines, with a $90 million deal for CFM56-5B engines for new Airbus A319s; and the Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise, with a deal for CFM56-7Bs to power 20 Boeing 737s. — John Croft
