Aviation Partners Boeing has received an STC for its blended winglet technology for the Boeing 757-200, a modification designed to save 150,000 gallons of fuel per year for each aircraft. The winglets will also allow the aircraft to take off up to 14,000 lbs heavier, according to Aviation Partners Boeing, a joint venture between Boeing and Aviation Partners Inc. of Seattle. Blended winglets are already used on the Boeing 737-NG and Boeing Business Jet, but this is the first application to long-range Boeing jets, says Aviation Partners Boeing chairman Joe Clark. Continental Airlines has 11 ship sets on order for its 757-200s, and Icelandair has seven with options for 15.
