Smiths to Provide Thrust Reverser Actuation for RRJ

Smiths Aerospace says it has been selected by the new Safran Group’s Aircelle, Thrust Reverser Actuation System (TRAS) for SaM-146 engines on Sukhoi’s new Russian Regional Jet. Potential RRJ program sales could exceed $35 million, Smiths said. The TRAS for the RRJ will be designed and manufactured at Smiths’ facilities in California and Wolverhampton (UK) with development hardware deliveries beginning in 2006. Snecma/NPO Saturn is responsible for the management of the SaM-146 propulsion system, with Aircelle providing the nacelle. “This is the seventh major TRAS program for which Aircelle, Safran Group has chosen Smiths, thus confirming we are providing the best value to our customer,” said Smiths president John Ferrie.
