 AirAsia Moves Quickly to Secure Engine MRO Services

Having purchased 129 CFM International CFM56-5B turbofans for its forthcoming fleet of 60 Airbus A320-200s on Monday, Malaysia’s AirAsia lost no time in ensuring its ongoing serviceability. Yesterday, group CEO Tony Fernandes was in the General Electric chalet here at the show to ink a 23-year maintenance, repair and overhaul agreement with GE, which will service the powerplants at its facility at Subang, Malaysia. The carrier — which claims that despite being low-cost, has “the best cabin crew in the world”—will introduce A320s in December.
