Power Gets More Power and a New Rear End

AgustaWestland’s A109 Power helicopter now features a 330-lb payload increase, thanks to a newly certificated 6,615-lb gross weight option for the PW206C-powered versions of the helicopter. With minor modifications such as a strengthened landing gear, existing A109 Power helicopters can be upgraded to the higher gross weight. Another retrofittable improvement is a composite tail rotor that has five times the maintenance life of the metal unit that it replaces, plus a new airfoil section that reduces noise. AgustaWestland has also introduced a new maintenance program for the A109 Power, extending maintenance intervals and deleting many existing requirements.

AgustaWestland’s new Grand helicopter has been approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for single-pilot IFR operations. Unveiled at last year’s Farnborough show, the Grand is a new large-cabin twin-engine helicopter powered by 815-shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207C engines, designed for corporate, SAR and EMS missions. AgustaWestland has also delivered the first Grand, ordered by British customer Graham Roach. The company claims the Grand offers cabin space and payload that were previously the provinces of larger and more expensive helicopters.
