Iran Offers to Add An-148 to An-140 Work

The close cooperation in civil aerospace between Iran and Ukraine may be extended yet further if Antonov accepts an offer to conduct flight testing of the An-148 in Iran. Isfahan-based HESA has suggested that Antonov might conduct hot-and-high trials of the new regional jet in Iran’s arid mountain ranges. The two companies are already partners on the An-140 turboprop airliner, which HESA is assembling under licence as the IRAN 140. The first Iranian-built aircraft went into service with local operator Safiran Airlines at the end of 2004; Safiran plans to have a fleet of five IRAN 140s flying by the end of the year. Antonov and HESA are discussing further improvements to the An-140, including changes to the engines and onboard systems. The two companies also reached agreement on the manufacture of new interior fits for the IRAN 140 and a new flight simulator. --Robert Hewson
