Lufthansa Technik officially launched its Project U high-end
consultancy service for VIP and executive jet owners on Wednesday, detailing
plans for a "celebrity jet" interior based on an A319 ACJ platform. The
concept, created by LHT with its newest Global Design Talents partner, UK-based
Design Q, demonstrates how "emotional design" can be successfully integrated
with engineering requirements. Design Q's previous aviation experience includes
developing the prototype interior for Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class Suite.
Other design team partners include the Conran Design Group and Seymourpowell.
LHT is working on four VIP projects at the moment using the
Project U process, and has received its first aircraft in Hamburg for a Project
U refurbishment a Boeing MD-11. As proof that a design flair most people think
would not be certifiable for flight can in fact be accommodated, LHT showed off
two Barcelona chairs the company has certified for inflight use.
