Gulfstream owners looking for an alternative to
factory-installed enhanced vision systems may find something to their advantage
at Booth 1078, where MaxViz is promoting a stand-alone installation costing a
typical $130,000, and not the $1.2 million price of the alternative.
Admittedly, MaxViz lacks the HUD presentation of infrared (IR) imagery, but its
unserviceability does not trigger a mandatory no-go decision, as would be the
case with the factory-installed equipment.
MaxViz holds an STC for a Gulfstream IV installation and has
one for the GV imminent. Its business is burgeoning, having begun a mere four
years ago and doubled in volume in each of the past three. Last NBAA Convention
it had 30 dealers; now there are 64. Keeping them busy are a steady stream of
new IR-vision STCs, most recently including the Boeing 767 and AgustaWestland
A109 Power.
The 767 modification for an undisclosed head of state
concerned the EVS-2500, a fused system combining IR images taken in two
bandwidths for additional penetration and clarity. EVS-1000 is employed in the
A109 and also is or very soon will be available as a production line option on
the Hawker 800 and various Cessna jets.
In all, MaxViz has 19 business jet and six helicopter
enhanced vision STCs available now or pending certification.
