GDAS Navigation Upgrades for Falcon, Challenger, Hawker

General Dynamics Aviation Services, which operates through six regional maintenance centers in the U.S., is offering EFB and P-RNAV upgrades for a range of business jets.

The company will install an Advanced Data Research (ADR) FG-5000 electronic flight bag system on Falcon 900 and all Challenger business jets under an FAA-issued STC. The system will provide pilots with access to maintenance manuals, checklists and real-time weather updates from Weather Services Inc. (WSI).

The Class 2 EFB includes a permanent mounting in the cockpit to allow an interface with aircraft navigation systems. The system supports moving maps, performance, flight-planning and terrain-avoidance software; Jeppview FliteDeck, FliteStar, FlightMap; and other software. The system has a wireless keyboard and stylus pens, a GPS interface and touch-screen control. Each installation includes two flight bags.

The company's P-RNAV upgrade is for Challenger CL601-3A/R, Falcon 900 and Hawker 800 business jets with Honeywell FMZ 2000 flight management systems. Aircraft are now required to have P-RNAV capability to operate into European airports on a regular basis. P-RNAV involves FMS navigation with GPS, other navigation sensors and the use of the autopilot. The original Honeywell FMS is retained in this upgrade.

General Dynamics Services was started in 2001 to serve the needs of Challengers, Falcons, Gulfstreams, Hawkers and other business jets. It operates from Appleton, Wis.; Minneapolis; Westfield, Mass.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Dallas; and Las Vegas.
