IS&S and ABX for Boeing 767 Cockpit Display Retrofits
Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. confirmed here on
Wednesday that it has teamed with ABX Air to upgrade and retrofit Boeing 767
cockpits with flat-panel display systems for both primary flight control and
navigation control information. As part of that arrangement, ABX Air placed a
$1.6 million order with the company in September to retrofit selected
airplanes. The first 767 has already been upgraded with primary flight and
navigation display systems and, after successful ground and flight-testing, has
received FAA TSO approval and STC certification.
According to IS&S president Roman Ptakowski, the ABX
Air/IS&S approach provides 767-200 and 767-300 operators with a single
point of contact for a low-cost, rapidly implemented retrofit. The turnkey
installation can be performed at ABX Air facilities with minimum downtime.
The cockpit/IP for the 767 is an example of the company's
approach to easily installed cockpit upgrades for a variety of aircraft. It
reduces the number of line replaceable units (LRUs) from 16 to three, and
diminishes aircraft weight by over 200 lbs.
