Matheson Acquires Twin Commander Aircraft

Jim Matheson, former general manager of Twin Commander Aircraft and group vice president of its managing service company, Precision Aerospace Services LLC, purchased Twin Commander Aircraft LLC and will serve as its president and CEO. The acquisition was finalized on Oct. 31. Matheson, CEO and GM of Twin Commander from 1993 to 1997, was given oversight responsibility for what eventually grew to four other Precision Aerospace companies in addition to Twin Commander. Matheson will be joined as a shareholder by his son, Mark, who has handled marketing and advertising for the company for the past seven years. Mark Matheson also owns a marketing agency, Matheson Media Corp.

Jim Matheson's immediate plans for Twin Commander are to continue supporting operators and service centers, and to "focus on innovations that add value and longevity to the fleet." Says Matheson, "Twin Commander was the first company I was responsible for at Precision, and it has always been my first love."

In other Twin Commander news, FlightSafety International has moved its Twin Commander training programs to Houston Hobby Airport from Bethany, Oklahoma. Available are two Level A simulators—one for 690/A/B models and one for JetProp models (840/980/900 and 1000). The full range of Twin Commander pilot initial and recurrent training, as well as maintenance training programs, are available at the Houston Learning Center as well. FSI says the move will allow the Twin Commander program to grow more quickly.
