Bristol-Myers Squibb Receives Corporate Angel Award
Bristol-Myers Squibb is the latest recipient of the Corporate Angel Award. Sponsored by ChevronTexaco, Business & Commercial Aviation magazine (B/CA) and NBAA, the quarterly award recognizes corporations for outstanding dedication and service through participation in the White Plains-based charity Corporate Angel Network, which arranges free flights to treatment centers for cancer patient, using empty seats on corporate jets.
Since joining the Corporate Angel Network in 1982, Bristol-Myers Squibb's flight department has transported more than 130 cancer patients across the country. Last year alone, the company logged 89 such flights on its shuttle and executive aircraft. Bristol-Myers Squibb is being recognized with a full-page advertisement in the October issue of B/CA, $2,500 worth of ChevronTexaco aviation fuel and a plaque commemorating the award.
"Since becoming a Corporate Angel Network participant, Bristol-Myers Squibb have provided an outstanding number of flights to cancer patients needing specialized treatment," said Peter Fleiss, associate director of Corporate Angel Network. "Their wholehearted involvement in our program embodies Bristol-Myers Squibb's commitment to extend and enhance human life."
Corporate Angel Network has grown to include 530 participating corporations, along with a team of 60 part-time volunteers and six paid staff who work with patients, physicians, corporate flight departments and leading treatment centers to coordinate medical travel needs of cancer victims. To date, it has arranged nearly 20,000 flights and currently provides about 200 patient flights per month. This past August it arranged a record 242 flights.
